Fostering the Health & Wellness of Indigenous Women in East Africa.

Give hope.

Partner with us in caring for those on the margins, where few others go.

What We Do

Alabaster International, in close partnership with local agencies, identifies communities of indigenous women who are isolated and under-resourced. We then collaborate with our local partners to guide us to these communities to partner with women to make long-lasting change together one community at a time.
Our Areas of Focus

Our areas of focus are:

Healthcare:

  • Preventative Health Services: Vitamin A, de-worming, malnutrition assessment and treatment, immunizations, female hygiene, prenatal, antenatal and post-partum care

Woman-Focused Wellness:

  • Nutrition and Food Security: Empowering female smallholder farmers, particularly in the cultivation of Enset and other drought-tolerant crops
  • Female Entrepreneurship: Supporting women-led businesses and initiatives, fostering economic independence and community-wide prosperity

Why We Are Different

  • Agility and Reach: Our ability to access the most remote and indigenous communities sets us apart. We go where others won't or can't, reaching those who are often forgotten.
  • Localization: Our approach is to work with local NGOs and communities, allowing their needs and insights to guide our interventions.
  • Scalable Impact: Starting with on-the-ground programs, we build solutions that last, from mobile strategies to sustainable infrastructure supporting health and wellness.

Our Strategies

  • Empowerment over Short-Term Aid: Our approach is to empower, not create dependency, ensuring communities can sustain themselves in the long term.
  • Staying Proximate: We choose to be close to the communities, embracing their realities, and learning from their experiences.
  • Listening and Learning: We celebrate the strengths of communities and learn from them, mobilizing resources in partnership.
  • Partnership and Collaboration: We work closely with local leaders and experts, building trust and understanding in every community we serve.
  • Community-Led: We avoid entering a community with a prescribed agenda or intervention, but rather tailor our programming according to community-identified needs while remaining aligned with our mission and vision.
